The Captain Oliver's Carib Beer Regatta (nicknamed the Renegade Regatta) will take place from Oyster Pond on May 14th and 15th and will form part of the Oyster Pond Marine Festival. The event will be run from the newly formed Captain Oliver's Yacht Club at the Captain Oliver's Resort and Marina. With the regatta just six weeks away, the organizers say they have much to do, but if enthusiasm is anything to go by then this regatta will be a success. In a recent interview, regatta organizer and well-known yachtsman Stuart Knaggs said they were expecting about 20 boats to take part in the inaugural event and confirmed that sailors on the French side had shown a lot of interest. Much thought has gone into the courses. Short windward/leeward racing will take place off the coast of Oyster Pond; this will give spectators on Crystal Mountain spectacular viewing. Other courses take the boats around the coast in an ant-clockwise direction as far as Marigot. Should bad weather affect the regatta, plans to change the courses are in place. Competitors will have free dockage at Captain Oliver's Marina and hotels are offering rooms at a reduced rates.
